What is a webhost?
Websites can be designed and created on virtually any PC or laptop, but to make the
website accesible to millions of people worldwide you need a webhost.
The typical webhost provides the facility to store your website on their machine to
which they provide open access to the Internet. The machine or 'server' may be
massive, occupying hundreds or even thousands of square feet of floor space.
Your website will be stored on a memory chip or board. Your website can then be
viewed by anyone, but you will have password access that enables you to add to or
amend the information as you wish.

The most important features to consider when deciding on a web site host are:
The amount of storage space you receive for your monthly payment. Nowadays the
space is usually quoted as unlimited, but some cheap providers still offer a limited
amount of space and if you need more then you pay a much higher fee.
Data transfer (sometimes referred to as bandwidth). Every time a page of your
website is viewed on the Internet, data are being transferred to the viewers computer.

The webhost should have a good customer support
system - ideally someone on the end of a telephone for
when things go badly wrong.
Email support is fine for the general technical stuff. The
'Live Chat' support systems are usually outsourced and
although they have helped once or twice, they can only
answer questions that appear directly in their own list of
FAQ's, otherwise they are stumped!
Special Offers
Beware of signing up under special offers. The price
you are interested in is the standard charge that will
affect you once the offer has expired.
GoDaddy.com is a good example. Whatever you buy
from GoDaddy always has extra costs and I find them
immensely frustrating.....but some people love them!
Finally, the cheap hosts are often unreliable and can
vanish in a puff of smoke - leaving you without a
website!

personally recommend. I have used others that I
wouldn't recommend to my enemies!
