Yahoo SiteBuilder - The fastest and easiest way to create a website
To show you just how easy it is to create a website using yahoo's SiteBuilder - let's create
this page using a few screenshots to assist.
Yahoo offers literally hundreds of different page templates if you want to use a ready-made
frame work for your website. Alternatively, you can begin with a blank page as I shall do in
this demonstration.
Creating a Webpage with Yahoo SiteBuilder
Creating a Website
Adding an image
Once you open a new page, simply right
click on the blank page and add
something. Here I shall add the header
image.
Screenshot 1
Right Click, select 'Insert' and then
'Image' and choose the image either
from your own picture files or from the
images and clipart provided by Yahoo.
Click on the image and then drag it to
the desired location. You can also
stretch or squash it.

Now let's add some text:
Screenshot 2
Right click again, then select 'insert'
and 'text'. Out jumps a little blue box.
Double-click on the box to start typing
and you get all the features expected of
a text editor.
Grab one of the little blue 'handles' on
the edge of the text box and stretch it to
the desired size.
Add as many images and text boxes as
you need. You can change the position
and size at any time.
Get SiteBuilder and create a website
Adding Script or HTML code
Adding a small piece of script is easy
too.
Flash banners and Google Adsense
have a little bit of code that doesn't
make much sense if just pasted on the
screen. Therefore, to add the code:
Right click and select 'Insert', then 'code
elements' and finally 'html' from the third
menu that appears automatically.
Paste your code into the code pop-up
box and that's it!
This little banner is another piece of
active script which has been added in
the same way and links automatically
with Yahoo webhosting:

Screenshot 4 - Here's your new piece
of html code in a neat little box.
Resizing the script box
To make the box the right size - Grab
the handles on the sides or corners.
Tip: As you resize it, look in the bottom
right corner of the screen and you will
see the precise pixel dimensions of the
box to help you.
This action applies also to text boxes,
images, frames and anything else you
insert on the page.
Let's just drag things around the page
a bit to get the design we want.
All of these screenshots are images
inserted using the action described
above.
All of the actions found by right clicking
on the screen are also available from
the top menu bar. In screenshot 5 I
have selected 'Insert Table'.
Tables are useful for formatting a page
created using a standard website
creating program. With Sitebuilder, I
only use tables if I want a border
around something or I have a lot of
information to tabulate such as on this
portfolio page
How did i just link those two words
'portfolio page' to another webpage?
Screenshot 6 - Adding a link:
Highlight the words you wish to turn
into an active link to another website or
page in your your own site.
Right click and select 'Link to'
You now have a choice of link:
A page on your site
Another website
An email address (not advisable)
A file (create a downloadable file)
Something else (useful for https://)
Enter the address you want the link to
point to and decide if you want the
page to open in a new window or the
same one.
Test the link...and click 'Create'
I said site builder was easy to use!
Screenshot 7 - Save Your Page
Select 'File' and then 'save page' or
use the icon on the menu.
Naming the page is quite important
Use the most important keyword you
can think of that is appropriate to the
page. The name of the page is useful
for attracting free traffic to your site, so
choose well. (you can change it later
though).
I will call this page:
'yahoo_sitebuilder_demonstration.html'
That's it !!
I spent a couple of minutes changing
the background colour and filling in the
page properties form to make this page
search engine friendly.
Click 'Publish' on the menu bar.
Enter your username and password.
and publish your modified files.
No ftp:// etc. etc. necessary.
It took me about 15 minutes to take the
screenshots, crop and resize them all.
It took no more than fifteen minutes to
create this page and not a single bit of
html knowledge was required.

Useful Tip
Although Sitebuilder automatically reduces the image size to make it manageable on the screen, you can make your page faster loading by first running the image through a great little gadget called PixResizer. By selecting 600 pixel width this image reduced in size to 50Kb from the initial capture size of 3.9Mb
Unless you really desire high resolution imaging, then stick to low resolution with faster page loading.
